Rochester NY

Rochester is in Western NY and is most well-known for being the home of Kodak, Bausch and Lomb and Genesee Brewing Company.  Both are an integral part of the economy of this place.  One of the most wonderful things about Rochester is that you can drive 30 minutes outside the city and be in farm country with cows and all.  The Finger Lakes are just an hour or so away.

I lived in the city of Rochester for about 18 months.  In that time I fell in love with the place.  The people are friendly and it’s a great place to live.  In the summer months there are several festivals including the lilac festival and others.  This is another city that has some great historical architecture.

Rochester is also home to the famous strong museum and the strong museum of play.  We took our older son here when he was about 18 months old and he wore himself out in the first exhibit.  It’s a gigantic play space and a great way to spend a day with kids.

Lake Ontario is to the north of Rochester and is a playground in both summer and winter for boating, fishing, ice fishing, and sometimes skating.  It snows here regularly during the winter months and a popular pass time for kids and adults alike is snowmobiling.

Rochester is Home to the Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Rochester, Stong Memorial Hospital, Wegman’s Grocery Stores and more.  It’s a medium-sized city whose residents enjoy the outdoors and strive to protect their environment.

If I was given the chance I would return to the city in a minute.  I loved that I could live just outside the city and have land and a view of a lake or a hillside yet working in the city was not a hard commute.

In case you’re hungry there are a few things that you may want to check out.  Nick Tahou’s for a garbage plate which consists of a Choice of Potatoes, Baked Beans or Mac Salad that is topped with a choice of meat and then a chili like sauce.  It’s a heart attack on a plate.   Another treat are the ribs from the Dinosaur BarbequeThe Distillery and Tom Wahls are also great places to get a burger.   They make their own root beer at Tom Wahls that is out of this world.   The subs at Wegman’s are to die for.  I’m getting hungry just thinking about it.

If the opportunity arises I recommend seizing it and taking the trip.  It’s a great place to live, work and play.
