Waimea Valley

Waimea Valley is located almost across from Waimea Bay Beach Park.  It’s a small little valley with a paved hiking path and botanical gardens.  It’s a wonderful little spot for a picnic, a leisurely stroll, swimming under the waterfall or even a wedding.  This spot is also used in the film industry rather frequently because of the ease of access to a waterfall.

We hiked the 3/4 of a mile up the paved path at a leisurely pace stopping to look at flowers and plants and to read the signage.  The real payoff is at the top when you get to the waterfall.

There is a lifeguard or two near the pool and they will tell you where to enter the water.  They also have life jackets available for use free of charge. The water is crystal clear and refreshing.  You can get up close and personal with the waterfall and swim in the 30 foot deep pool.  It’s a great family hike.

So,  if  you are going to visit Waimea Valley be aware there is an admission fee of $15 per person, $10 for kama’aina and military.  Bring your bathing suit and towel.  The first time we went we didn’t.  I highly recommend this one.  Even though it’s somewhat of a tourist trap its on the other side of the island from Waikiki and so it’s not as crowded as other spots.

Do they still do diving shows? I remembered they used to do that back int the day. I haven’t been there for YEARS. Now I kinda want to go. Thank you for reminding me of this place.
